The iconic Kumbh Mela is all set to get a new attraction- cruise ships- which will give you a tour of the ghats of Ganga and Yamuna. In order to promote religious tourism in the state, the Kumbh Mela administration have planned to ply two cruise ships which will give an extensive tour of the holy ghats and allow the tourists to have a surreal experience.
The cruise which has been launched under the water transportation scheme will ply from Sujawan ghat near Ghurpur till Quila ghat near Sangam, covering an approximate distance of 20 kilometres. The cruise however will not be available on Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya and Basant Panchmi due to the heavy influx of pilgrims.
DIG and SSP Kumbh KP Singh said, “This would be first time when a cruise vessel would be plied on Ganga and Yamuna to promote tourism during Kumbh Mela.” Moreover, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has agreed to ply the cruise vessel during the Kumbh Mela, Singh said. Jettis will be constructed by the IWAI authorities to facilitate the movement of the tourists.
The UP government has already started gearing for the Kumbh Mela, that is slated for next year. Apart from the introduction of cruise ships, the grand religious event will also see at least 55 Motor Bike Fire Fighting Systems to ensure the security of pilgrims, visitors and tourists at large. Also, hi-tech lost and found camps will be in place.
A slew of other events will be also be in parallel to the Kumbh Mela 2019. If all goes according to the Yogi- government’s plan, then Allahabad will be renamed as Prayagraj before the beginning of the Kumbh 2019. Not just this, UP government is also trying to popularise the Kumbh in other countries of the world. As per a government official, international branding of the religious congregation is being undertaken.
